Essa Township Community

Essa Township is a diverse area, blending rural and urban communities, located at the heart of Simcoe County. The township includes the communities of Angus, Baxter, Thornton, Colwell, Egbert, Ivy, and Utopia. Situated west of Angus, CFB Borden – the largest Canadian Forces training base – has a positive impact on the township's economy.

With its picturesque landscapes, numerous rivers, and convenient access to major cities, Essa Township offers an attractive environment to live and work, particularly for its 18,505 residents. The area is primarily agricultural but also boasts a bustling service industry and some manufacturing plants within its borders.

Essa Township's policing is provided by the OPP, which has a satellite office at the newly opened Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School. Despite its growing population, crime in Essa is lower than the provincial five-year average, thanks to a proactive approach to crime and traffic.

A strong sense of pride is evident in Essa Township, as seen through the many volunteer projects undertaken by its residents. There is a particular focus on preserving the pristine conditions of its rivers, as highlighted by the annual Community Tree Plant. Annual festivals, such as the Angus Salmon Festival and Derby, attract visitors from Central Ontario, who come to experience the excellent fishing conditions and the friendly atmosphere that Essa Township is known for.
